Electrical Services (Mechanical / General Light & Power / Data)
AMEK Engineering has multiple licensed electricians across Australia and in each operation globally providing ongoing service, maintenance, design and installation of electrical services and equipment in accordance with all government legislations and relevant Australian & International Standards.
Our electrical teams are experienced in maintenance, repairs, installations including fit-outs, refurbishments, minor works, projects, energy efficiency, minor construction, repairs and breakdowns.
AMEK engineering's foundations in both electrical and mechanical (HVACR &E) contracting has given the company a solid platform for the increased interactions between the electrical, mechanical and building automation components of the built environment.
AMEK offer all clients the additional suite of services and mandatory testing carried out by our teams as follows:
TESTING AND TAGGING Of ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES
Current Australian and International standards specify the testing and tagging of portable appliances must be carried out depending upon the use of the appliance / cable and the operational environment in order to confirm the electrical safety of the item of equipment.
By law, the testing and tagging must be conducted by licensed or accredited competent technicians.
PAT devices coupled with thermal printers are used for by all testing teams for the testing procedure and printing of tags on site.
TESTING / INSTALLATION OF RESIDUAL CURRENT DEVICES (RCD'S) & EARTH LOOP IMPEDANCE
International and Australian standards (AS/NZS 3000:2018) specifies significant clarifications and changes to the protection requirements of final sub circuits / circuits within commercial, industrial and domestic facilities with Residual Current Devices (RCD's).
Current Australian and International standards state that any new circuit or changes to an existing electrical circuit must include the installation of an RCD.
The standards are also very clear on the requirement for the testing regimes and procedures for the testing of the RCD's on an annual basis.
All AMEK electrical teams are accredited for the testing of RCD's and use testing instruments for timed testing and the printing / storage of test results and the issuing of compliance certificates at the successful completion of testing nd or upgrade works.
INFRA-RED THERMAL SCANNING
When electrical cabling begins to overheat or circuitry fails, this is generally caused by a number of factors as follows:
All of the above generate heat which in turn can cause failures and in extreme cases, fires.
All AMEK electrical teams are equipped with state of the art thermographic cameras are trained and accredited for interpreting the results of the thermographic scans and the providing advice on the repair, expected outcomes or probable source of heat.
UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY (UPS), BATTERY MAINTENANCE & POWER FACTOR CORRECTION UNITS (PFCU)
We service and maintain UPS systems, Battery Systems and Power Factor Correction Units (PFCU's) and ensure they are operating at peak capacity.
Power quality is critical to efficient operation of equipment and a contributing element to power quality is power factor. PFC aims to improve the power factor of the buildings load and ultimately reduce energy consumption and stabilising building imbalance .
Our PFC and UPS equipment maintenance includes checking that the system is operating at optimum performance levels.

EXIT AND EMERGENCY LIGHTING
In an emergency situation when occupants need to evacuate facilities safely, Emergency and Exit Lighting is an integral part of the life safety systems. We provide comprehensive site risk assessments, provide and recommend the correct locations for exit and emergency lighting, update and implement your building’s evacuation plan and carry out the mandatory 6 monthly testing regimes.
LIGHTING SERVICES
Lighting in any facility is a large contributor to both energy consumption and can hugely influence personal well-being and health, motivation and performance.
Our electrical engineering team can advise on the correct lighting and lux levels in the built environment.
Our service teams provide:
ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND BUILDING AUTOMATION
Energy management is a broad term when considering the effect that poor control over lighting, HVAC systems, pumping systems and general building services.
Our electrical and automation teams combine talents and expertise to analyse the facilities performance and base loading from smart energy meters, utilities billing and the trend data logs in the Building Automation System.
Using the information from our Intelligent Platform, we provide performance based solutions to reduce the overall energy footprint.
A number of basic solutions implemented on client sites inclusive of the following steps have resulted in reductions in energy consumption upwards of 75%.
DIESEL GENERATORS (STANDBY & PRIME POWER)
AMEK Engineering service and maintain diesel generator sets used for for both prime and standby (emergency) power applications.
The generators must be regularly maintained to ensure they provide quality power throughout their service life.
Our maintenance includes checking that the system is operating at optimum performance levels and includes:

INFRA-RED THERMAL SCANNING
When electrical cabling begins to overheat or circuitry fails, this is generally caused by a number of factors as follows:
- Loose connections / high resistance joints at circuit breakers, contactors, overloads, motor terminals, duct heaters etc.
- Overloading of circuits.
- Under voltage at source.
